Our Story
Building on a family legacy as medical pioneers in the Kingdom, Saudi German Health was founded by the Al-Batterjee family 35 years ago to relieve people’s suffering and have a positive impact on their health.
In 1988, Eng. Sobhi Al-Batterjee, Chairman of Saudi German Health, and Dr. Khalid Al-Batterjee, Vice President of Saudi German Health, established the first hospital in Jeddah and collaborated with German University Hospitals to bring advanced German healthcare standards and expertise to the local community for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These associations inspired the ‘German’ in our name.

Makarem Sobhi Al-Batterjee is a distinguished business leader in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with more than two decades of experience spanning healthcare, consulting, investment, and entrepreneurship. He serves as Vice Chairman of Saudi German Health, where his forward-looking leadership has driven a comprehensive organizational transformation, strengthening its scale, governance, and long-term vision.
Beyond his role at Saudi German Health, Mr. Al-Batterjee holds the position of President and Vice Chairman of the family-owned Bait Al Batterjee Group, a diversified enterprise overseeing more than 25 subsidiaries across multiple sectors. He is also the Founder of Humania Capital, a private equity firm focused on healthcare investments across the GCC and North Africa, and the Founder and CEO of New City Company, a developer of contemporary shopping centers across Saudi Arabia.
Our Journey of Transformation
Over the last few years, we have been focusing on renovating our hospitals, introducing unique medical specialties, providing advanced treatments, bringing international doctors to the region, and building partnerships with international medical organizations. Our evolution from a hospital group to a healthcare group is reflected through our new visual identity, brand architecture, and digital transformation. Saudi German Health is a consolidation of our healthcare and education infrastructure.
While our previous colors represented our strong German association, over the years we have expanded our collaborations with healthcare organizations in the USA, UK, Canada and beyond. In our new logo, the green color remains to represent our strong Saudi heritage, while the new blue color represents our position as a global leader, bringing medical care from across the world.
